So you’ve got a pool and it needs maintenance. You have hired a pool guy and now you are wondering if it’s worth the cost to hire him?

You’re worried that the money you’re spending isn’t worth it because you’re unsure if you even need him to keep your pool clean.

Well, if you are starting to second guess the money, don’t worry! We will be going over everything you need to take into consideration in this article!

The Cons

Let’s start with the cons to get them out of the way. There are a few reasons you might not feel like your pool guy is worth the money.

Are They Qualified?

One of the biggest issues with pool guys is that lots of them aren’t actually properly qualified.

Lots of people take up pool cleaning as a sort of side hustle and haven’t had any experience in cleaning them before.

Some pool cleaning companies will hire new employees that have next to no experience or qualifications as well, and this can be an issue if you want your pool cleaned to optimal standards.

Some Can Be Dishonest

Another issue you can have with pool guys is that they can be dishonest.

Lots of pool cleaners tend to come to clean the pool during the day when you’re busy at work, so you can’t keep an eye on them and see what sort of job they’ve done.

You also can’t know for a fact if they actually turned up when they said they would, especially if your pool isn’t too dirty in the first place, so you could in essence be paying someone for not doing any work at all.

They Like To Overcharge

Unfortunately, lots of pool guys tend to overcharge their customers and you’d have no real way of knowing if you were being overcharged.

If you don’t know anything about cleaning pools or what you need to clean a pool, they can throw all sorts of jargon out at you and confuse you, making their prices seem justified, even if you feel a bit weird about it.

The Pros

The Pros

Now that we’ve got the cons out of the way, let’s move on to the pros. Not all pool guys are dishonest or unqualified. Some are actually a great help to you and your pool.

They Help When You Don’t Know What You’re Doing

Although there are reasons a pool guy may not seem like a good idea, sometimes they will be more helpful than if you do it yourself.

If you have a fully qualified pool guy working for you, he’ll be able to sort out any mechanical problems, or even just identify them when you could be completely oblivious to them if you were doing them yourself.

Sometimes the price you have to pay doesn’t matter, because at least you’re getting an expert’s opinion on your pool.

They Deal With The Mundane Activities

Lots of people just don’t want to clean their pools because it’s quite a tedious activity that can be time-consuming.

Paying for a pool guy to do it for you saves you the time and effort you’d rather be putting elsewhere. If the pool guy is reliable and good at his job, then the cost is worth it and you don’t have to worry about this mundane activity.

Because the pool guy usually comes when you’re at work as well, you don’t even have to think about the pool most of the time.

You could go to work in the morning and by the time you get back, the pool will be spotless again.

Other Things You Can Do

If you’re still on the fence about keeping your pool guy, there are some other things you can try to give you better clarity and understanding of the situation.

Give Self Maintenace A Try

If you’re still on the fence about if having a pool guy is worth the money, try sorting your pool out for yourself for a couple of weeks.

If you take care of the pool maintenance yourself, you’ll be sure the job is done right and to your liking.

It might take a chunk of time out of your day, but you’ll be saving a good amount of money and you don’t have to worry about the pool guy.

Do The Research

It is important that you do the needed research when it comes to both hiring the right guy for the job and cleaning the pool yourself.

Look into the reviews of anyone you hire and make sure they are legit. If you need to learn about pool maintenance, learn about how a pool works, what tools you need, etc.

Doing this research will work wonders for you in the long run!

Conclusion

Taking in mind both the pros and cons and what you can do to sort the pool out yourself, a pool guy is only really worth the money if he is a help and not a hindrance.

If your pool guy is knowledgable, trustworthy, and reliable, then spending that extra cash on him will save you a lot of hassle.

If he is untrustworthy, dishonest, and unqualified though, you’re in for a bigger headache.

You’d have to either find another pool guy or sort the pool out yourself and if you don’t have the knowledge about pools yourself, you could run into problems with it later.
